.The U.S. Department of Transportation, Department of Homeland Security, Department of Justice, and White House Fraud Task Force announced a sweeping interagency crackdown on fraud within the commercial trucking industry Monday.

FMCSA says it is emergency-removing more than 110 CDL training providers tied to more than 5,000 drivers who later failed English-language-proficiency requirements. Another 160+ training providers face proposed removalfollowing nearly 400 investigations across 40 states. FMCSA is also launching a nationwide audit of third-party CDL skills testers and state oversight programs. 

DHS simultaneously launched enforcement activity involving more than 200 driving schools across 23 states, while federal investigators are targeting suspected CDL fraud, identity and document fraud, unauthorized employment, medical-certification fraud, labor exploitation, money laundering, and other criminal activity connected to trucking businesses. 

DOJ also announced the new Joint Task Force Crossroads of America, initially bringing together U.S. Attorneys and law-enforcement agencies in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, and Ohio. Participating agencies include FMCSA, FBI, DEA, HSI, ICE, and ATF.
